Keith Taylor visit
The Ceredigion Green Party welcomed Keith Taylor to a public meeting in Aberystwyth
Last Wednesday, the Ceredigion branch of the Green Party was pleased to welcome the party's principal speaker, Keith Taylor, to the Old College of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Councillor Taylor leads the Green group of councillors on Brighton city council and at the 2005 election received 22% of the vote in the Brighton Pavillion constituency. He addressed assembled party members and others on the need to develop a less carbon-intensive economic system for the sake of society and our environment. This emphasised a need to reduce our reliance on private transport and aviation and to consider shopping more locally rather than being overly reliant on the large supermarkets.
These comments were supplemented by a speech from the Green Party's first choice candidate for Mid and West Wales, Leila Kiersch, who showed how these ideas could be implemented on a local level here in West Wales. This focussed on the need for an enhanced public transport network and a strong opposition to plans to explore for oil in Cardigan Bay and the proposed downgrading of local hospitals.
The local party secretary, Dr. Chris Simpson, then chaired questions from the floor before thanking Councillor Taylor for attending.
